I'm planning on travelling Argentina for my fist adventure cycle trip. Can anyone advise on:
• average km/day.
• Average cost/day.
Also, if you've had any good deals on Travel Insurance and flights, information on those would also be useful.
I'm fit and healthy and I'm used to doing 80 - 100 miles/day on weekends in the UK. Obviously it will be more more demanding fully loaded and on poor roads in Argentina (possibly Chile & Peru). If anybody with experience can help it will be greatly appreciated.

Hi John,
You can do about 100km/day in Argentina except in Patagonia because of the wind, the average could drop to 70/80km. Roads are usually very good except in Tierra del Fuego.
Life is cheap in Argentina, a hostel will cost you about US $10 a night, $15 in Tierra del Fuego and in the main touristic spots. You can save big by camping. Food for a cycling day is easily less than $10.
Chile is more expensive, about 15 to 20% more I'd say. Most southern Chile is easy to bike, la Carretera Austral is not paved so get ready for some low mileage, la Panamericana is a highway without much excitement, Atacama will slow you down big time.
I've never biked in Peru, I'd expect it to be like Argentina for the cost/day with some medium quality roads. But I really don't know.
