It's quite difficult to get lost in Australia because only one long highway runs from Darwin to the south.
The local police had taken him under their wing and were escorting him through their area. As you can see from the attached photo they appear to be quite friendly so I don't think that he was being arrested!

This bridge was only about three or four inches wide. The bikes were to heavy to carry so we rolled them over the bridge slowly and carefully. By the time that John got out the river his legs were numb from the icy waters. North of Ali Tibet.
